Bryan Palacky | 2017 Graduate

My name is Bryan Palacky. I’m 28 years old and I grew up in Baltimore, M.D. Growing up I had a hard-working mother who was absent a lot due to the hours she had to work to provide for me and my two siblings. So, as you can imagine I had a lot of time free without parental guidance. So, into my teenage years I found myself starting to experiment with drugs and alcohol, which carried over into my adult years. This lead me into a full-blown heroin addiction. In 2015 I was at the end of my rope. I had nowhere to turn and had no idea where to find help. All I know is that in my heart something was telling me that there is so much more to life than what I was doing.

A friend of the family had approached me about a program called Adult and Teen Challenge. So, I decided to take a leap of faith and entered into the program.  Jesus Christ found me in my second month in the program with a spiritual encounter that changed my heart forever. So, I completed the program and went on to serve at the center that God used to change my life. I had a new-found hope and I wanted to help others come to find our Lord just as I had. After about a year of serving I felt my time was coming to an end so I decided to depart from the program and try this new life out with the tools that God had instilled in me.

I moved back home and started a new job with this idea that my days of destruction were over. However, I soon realized that some of my old habits began creeping back in and after about a year of doing work and “life”. I was back to using heroin full time once again. So, I reached back out to the place where God showed me true peace. I committed myself into the restoration program of ATCB and asked God to show me what things I missed. Through the restoration program God has shown me where I went wrong, and how to more deeply apply my faith. I heard someone once say, “how can you watch a television if it isn’t plugged in?” It’s the same for God. How can we expect to know what He has for us and the things that He wants to remove in our lives if we aren’t fully seeking Him? Waking up every morning to Him and asking him to show us how to kill the flesh and fully understand His grace. I know that I will not be able to live a life that is complete without Jesus Christ.

I’m now learning to hear the voice of Him over again and waiting for Him to show me the direction He has for my life. So, I am living in ATCB PGR re-entry program until God tells me to move I’m also learning what it means to be accountable to the people that God has put in my life as leaders. But this is where peace is and the fullness of life only can be found in Christ alone. I look to start a new career in the following months and take what I’ve learned and apply it to my daily life with Christ being the center of my life from this day on.

John Hawley | 2017 Graduate

My name is John I am 55 years old. I grew up in a very dysfunctional family. Alcohol and drug abuse was very prominent. By the time I was 15 years old alcohol and drug use filled my life. My only concern was getting high as often and as much as I could. I married in my late 20’s and had one son. My marriage lasted 22 years. However, it was plagued with substance abuse leading to numerous run ins with law and judicial systems in two states. I struggled with this addiction for 35 yrs. It was not until I came to Adult Teen Challenge of Baltimore that I found healing in God and the transforming work of his word and the Holy Spirit. Romans 12;1-2.

While I was here I experienced the true love the Father has for me and his creation. I elected to stay here and serve and have had the great blessing to see God’s work in many other brothers live. I believe that the only way to be set free from any life controlling issues is completely surrender to God who created you and has a purpose for each of us.

I have discovered that no matter where I am at in life Gods saving grace is there for anyone who desires it, Jesus said it in Matthew 20:1-16.

Jesus works through this ministry, and I want to thank everyone who has supported and is supporting this ministry. God has healed, restored and resurrected this life from certain death and eternal separation from Him. By surrendering to Jesus, He completes his work. I know this because the blind man he healed didn’t need glasses, the crippled man didn’t need crutches, and I no longer have need for alcohol or drugs. God has placed eternity in the heart of every man and he is the only one who can fill it.

Life verse:

Joshua 1:8-9

This book of law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid; nor be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
